I think I've added (most of the) new features to the documentation now. If there's something missing, please let me know.
We could probably use more examples for the layout section though; practical examples that show people how to create beautiful themes using the features we have. Anyone up for writing some?

Not that I'm aware of. The parameters are generally handled by the SDL display function, which is universal for all art.
Looking at it though, I wonder if that background color ever got implemented by Emb...
