Art

RetroFE, like many front-ends, uses quite a bit of art to make the front-end look good. Both the HyperSpin and EmuMovies communities provide large amounts of artwork that's also usable in RetroFE. On the EmuMovies FTP site, you can even find a complete RetroFE setup including art for several systems (no roms of course), and an update including the required emulators for those systems. If you have an account there, feel free to take a look at the /Official/Retro FE Media Pack directory.

For MAME, I'm working together with the HyperSpin community to make a complete art set. You can find the WIP at https://mega.nz/#F!4VxAUb5Y!TlEEdgjiVHvEG1PSAPsqsg
You can find the bezels in emulators/MAME/artwork.

Since MEGA uses download limitations, for the best experience you should create your own (free) account, sync the data to your own account, and then use the MEGA sync tool to download the data to your computer.

I've uploaded a new modular RetroFE system to the EmuMovies FTP site, at /Official/Retro FE Media Pack
While it contains a README.txt as well, a bit of explanation:
- The RetroFE base.zip file contains the base RetroFE installation, with the latest executable. It's not very different from what you can find in the download section here, except that it does not have the Sega Genesis and Arcade collection.
- The MAME 0.x emulator.zip file contains the MAME emulator installation. All the collections currently in the set use MAME as their emulator, and the launchers all point to this installation.
- The rest of the zip files contain collections, as complete as I have them, with launchers for Linux and Windows. Just unzip them in the RetroFE directory.
- The emulators directory contains the MAME artwork (bezels) (/Official/Retro FE Media Pack/emulators/MAME/artwork), which can you simply drag and drop as a whole into your RetroFE directory. The MAME installation mentioned above will automatically use them.

Basically, all you need to do is take the base (or use your own), unzip the MAME installation if you want, unzip the collections you want, add them to your Main collection's menu.txt file, add your roms, and enjoy. :) The sets are mostly based on HyperSpin 1.0 XML files, so finding the corresponding roms should be easy. :)

I'll upload my launchers here tomorrow.

I also need to add the CPS I-III, Cave and SNK Neo-Geo MVS sub collections to EmuMovies.

What versiĆ³n of mame you use in linux? i'm in 16.10, but only use the libretrocore, and i have problems whit the CDI an others system.

For Commodore, amiga, CD32, CDTV etc, i use fs-uae, runs like a charm, because with retrofe, you can lauch a .fs-uae file like a rom <3 <3

I've updated the sets with the latest bezels by Krakerman and Griffin518.

I noticed Circo moved the RetroFE modular system to the Official section, so I've uploaded the MAME 0.184 sets to a new RetroFE directory in the Upload section.

Circo has given me control over the official RetroFE directory, so from now on I'll keep /Official/Retro FE Media Pack up to date with the latest files I use.

Just to give my thoughts regarding this large folder that I am downloading all at once.

Is this actually worth it? If people have access to emu movies in the first place, they can use the automatic downloader which matches the xml to the files and downloads all the artwork.

Would it not be best just to include the best set up and basic graphics, skins etc for a working build?

I am on 17 gigs and still loads to download, I know that I prefer setting up one system at a time, to avoid as much human error as possible, games that I might strip in the future I am downloading the artwork etc for.

A basic set up would be a lot better, I still have 28 gigs to download so all in all about 40 gigs if people are on limited broadband connections, this method will be far too much for them.

Just my view anyway

Regards

Mark
