There's a deadzone setting in the controls.conf you can adjust.

Can you explain in more detail what you're requesting? If you're asking if RetroFE can generate lists for you, it can't currently.

You can create a collection or a playlist based on any criteria you want, but you have to manually create those lists or use an app to do so. I believe dustin uploaded an app to the forum which splits the xmls based on any field, including genre.

Yeah, whether the dev or pub is used in the manufacturer tag is going to vary from xml to xml (and probably even vary from game to game given the quality of some lists) in regards to the xmls taken directly from hyperlist, HS forum, or HS download section.

The MAME xmls Pieter generates result from parsing the MAME binary -listxml output so any inconsistencies in that data would be from there.

GameFAQs and MobyGames are two sites that are good for info that I use. RetroFE supports a developer tag so your best bet would be to use that for the developer and use the manufacturer tag for publisher.

HS only supports the manufacturer tag which was originally contained the developer, but after the old db team disbanded things went to hell in terms of databases. A bunch of bad or plain useless xmls were uploaded to hyperlist (which are the ones included with RFE) and people started using publisher in the manufacturer tag. Myself and 4-5 other people attempted to correct the situation and get things back on track but after working on improving them for awhile we called it quits also for many reasons.

I hate this, I don't see why anyone would care at all about who published a game, at least not on the sense of it trumping the developer...

This is kinda funny because I remember seeing a post recently on the HS forum where someone said the exact opposite. They basically said "who the hell cares about the developer, I want to see the publisher in the manufacturer tag" and went about changing them lol. So I guess it's just a matter of preference but luckily RetroFE supports both tags so no compromise is needed and you can have both.

This theme looks great, nice and simple. The only potential criticism I have is the labels for mfc, date and rating are a bit hard to read, but that may look better when actually running the theme.

No need to apologize, that's the nature of doing themes which rely on created artwork. It's why I pretty much never use themes like that and caution people about going down that road. You can do some really cool looking stuff with custom assets but unless you plan on implementing it on a small scale it's a lot of work to make happen, which deters a lot of users.

There's no official list as there are just way too many PC games out there and a ton more being released every day. A list isn't realistic to create or maintain due to the size of the library. Everyone pretty much just makes an xml for the games they have, so you'll have to do the same.

Once you get the initial list done adding data for new ones only takes a few seconds. Every time I add a new game to Steam or another client I just go ahead and add the info then.

The problem is you're using the %ITEM_NAME% as the argument in your jnes launcher so it's sending the file name without the extension. You should use "%ITEM_FILEPATH%" as your argument instead.

Feature Requests / Suggestions / Re: Per Game Info.conf files
« on: June 10, 2017, 06:26:51 PM »
Everyone chill out and keep on topic please. I don't see why anyone is getting worked up over a feature request that would only add completely optional functionality and not affect how things are currently. That's exactly what this section is for and community input is key in making the frontend better for all. But, if anyone isn't interested in or capable of discussing these things without getting bent out of shape, don't participate in the discussion.

If anything I think If info is present for both the info file should override the xml since it would be user specified. However, I don't really see the point in someone doing that since it would make more sense to just edit the xml instead of having dupe fields. It is a use case that would need to be considered though. The purpose of the proposed info.conf was to allow people to specify information on a per game basis for fields not included in the xml from what I gathered.

These are not needed, they are Aeon Nox specific

They're optional, yeah. but aren't really specific to the Nox theme. They're just labels to accompany the other fields that any layout could use although Nox may or may not be the only one using them currently.

Ah, yeah it makes sense now. I imagine the blur could be a bit tricky to do on the fly without taking a performance hit.

Which media items would need to be converted? I'm assuming the box fronts with the gloss/shine effect possibly?

I realize such effects may not be easy to implement natively but I would suggest trying to avoid the need for specialized media assets. Even using a Photoshop batch script the need for users to covert their images for a custom or uncommon collection will turn people off and it would mean a duplicate media set to maintain if they wanted to use other themes as well. This was one of the big drawbacks of the HS Aeon Nox theme and why not many people used that. I'd hate to see the same happen to this theme because it does look good but I know I would be less likely to use it if it meant using existing assets wasn't possible.

General Discussion & Help / Re: Shutdown Option for Linux Retrofe

All you should have to do is place the shutdown script in the roms directory of your Main collection and make sure the script extension is listed in your Main settings.conf file.

General Discussion & Help / Re: Playlists linked to Include.txt

Multiple rom paths are supported. You just need to separate the paths with a semicolon in the settings file. Anything in the exclude.txt should also be excluded from playlists if that's what you're asking. I'm not in front of my setup right now to verify.

I don't have time to set it up and test at the moment but just by looking at the xml I see a problem. Many of the name attributes in the xml and your include.txt use colons ':' which aren't allowed in file names, they should use a hyphen '-' instead. That explains no images/meta showing for those games and you won't be able to launch the games either since files can't contain the colon character.

It's also worth noting that the "enabled" field is useless in HS as well, it does nothing. So there's no point in including that in any of the xmls as it does nothing and won't break anything by not being there. IIRC it was supposed to be for on the fly show/hide in HS but it was yet another feature that was never implemented.
