If the potential performance hit is a concern I'd say allow the option to be toggled in the root settings.conf and only have the caching/searching executed if the option is enabled. That way people who have their media matching already wouldn't be affected by possible slowdowns. I know I'd personally rather not sacrifice any performance if possible, no matter how minor, for a feature I would never use.

Your English is perfectly fine.

In regards to creating an xml file for your lists you'll likely have to do that manually and/or with third party apps. You may want to check the German section of the HS forum, I know some of the guys in there were making xml files giving precedence to German/PAL versions over US. I'm not sure how many there are but that may be able to save you some time.

If you already have your roms divided into directories for the different categories you want to use you can just create collections for each of those and set the rom path to the specific directory. You would then create a collection to act as your menu. You wouldn't have to change any settings for that collection, just list your subcollections in the menu.txt for that system.

I should've been more specific. I know people have been blocked, but not the specifics of how they were going about it. I assumed if the scraper was implemented to grab info upon adding new collections that it could trigger a block or have to be severely throttled to avoid it.

Just a heads up, GameFAQs will block your IP for scraping so I'm not sure that's something you would want to include in your codebase.

Multiple playlist support was added a little while ago, so you're good to go. To create a playlist you'll need to create a "playlist" directory in your collection directory if it doesn't exist already, then add text files listing rom names.

So for example, you would create a "RetroFE/collections/MAME/playlists/Beat-'Em-Up.txt" containing the rom names for the beat-em-ups, a "Single Player.txt" listing 1P games, etc.

Welcome :D

I use relative paths for my base Item and Media paths and although I do get the same incorrect path in the log, the game list and media load fine.

There's not currently any way to dynamically filter collections that I'm aware of. An alternative to using subcollections would be to use playlists instead. The only (potential) downside with the playlist method is you have to navigate through the lists by using the next/prev playlist buttons, there's not a menu of the playlists.

"The last step is to add the newly created collection to the main menu by editing RetroFE/collections/Main/menu.xml, and add a line:" I think this one is gone and we use only menu.txt instead
Correct, older versions used an xml.

the retroFE shortcut in the root directory can no tbe moved otherwise it s not working, maybe a quick explanation would be necessary.
The shortcut uses relative paths so if you move the shortcut the exe will not be found. You can create a new one in Windows by right clicking the exe and that will use absolute paths so you can move it wherever you'd like.

when the favorite list is selected, is there an information on the screen telling you it is active or not ? That would be handy.
That depends on the layout, if the layout utilizes the playlist type for an element it will show. The Nox layout for example will display an image for the playlist using the logos in the collections/_common\medium_artwork\playlist directory.

if you want to add layouts and that you have selected the AEON NOX. spare layouts must be placed in Aeon Nox sub folders ?
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking here but if you want to use a different layout you'll need to download the layout and place it in the RetroFE/layouts folder. You would then edit the "layout" value in the RetroFE/settings.conf to the name of the layout folder.

Off Topic / Re: Which Rom renamer tool are you using ?
« on: April 13, 2017, 06:44:28 PM »
There's no need to rename MAME roms. If you're trying to update your rom set you should use clrmamepro or romvault to rebuild. Any artwork you find out there should also match already for the most part excluding some minor clone name changes so there's really no reason to use a rename tool with MAME.

The xml is used for meta data only, it has no effect on which games are listed in RetroFE. If you have your rom path pointing to your entire MAME set you need to list the Neo Geo rom names in the include.txt file for that system. It will then only display the roms you listed instead of your entire MAME set.

Sweet thanks I dont see search feature on list with some type of on screen keyboard, would be nice.  I really like how hypersearch worked on my old hyperspin setup.  I sure you will come up with an awesome solution though...  ;)

That link was to the old RFE repo, not the current one. I believe Pieter thought you were asking about the format of the issue tracker so he used that as an example. He hasn't added his to-do list to the current RFE repo yet, which I believe is what you were asking.

Make sure to set the RetroFE.lnk in the root directory as the frontend path in RLUI, not the core/RetroFE.exe.

The meta data is pulled from the xml files in the RetroFE/meta/hyperlist directory. The Sega Genesis.xml inside that directory is what you would modify to change any info for your Genesis games if that's what you're asking.

The menu.txt file is where you list subcollections, not anything related to roms. You need to set the list.path in the system's settings.conf to your rom path and set the extensions to the extensions of your rom files in order for RetroFE to generate the game list for that system.

Looking forward to what you've come up with this time.

Your romset version and the version of the emulator need to match. If they don't, some games will not work due to missing/renamed files or roms. The larger the difference in versions the worse it will be. You also need to be sure to have the bios files (which are included if you download a full set) and CHDs when applicable.
