I just noticed that unless my controller is active before I start RetroFE, no inputs are registered. Is your controller activated before you start RetroFE?

^ I can confirm this happens. But it happens on any application (Xbox360 controllers must be connected BEFORE launching any application to be able to use them on that one).

I discovered recently that SDL2 has a gamepad hotplug system; I think supporting it would just be a matter of listening for the right events and calling some SDL functions in response.  Might be a good thing to add to the feature list.  All my gamepads are Xbox360 Wireless, so I can't reproduce the crashing behavior.

I have a Xbox360 and a XboxOne controller wired all the times without problems... I think I had a Xbox360 wired and a Xbox360 wireless at some time too. But I don´t have others to test the crash  :-\

Maybe you could add a main setting for FPS?  ??? I don´t know how hard that would be, but if it fixes some of your problems, it may help others as well...

You are welcome!  ;D

Yay on the Wiki! I love that kind of format for documentation :)

I´ve found a bug on last version, but I don´t know if it´s a problem of my compilation or not (rarely I think it has happened before). On my main theme, if you go to the second menu and come back to the first one, items from the previous menu keep being visible. That means code like this one has stopped working (onMenuEnter on previous menu index):

Code: [Select]
        <item yOffset="-125" xOffset="50" height="75">
            <onMenuEnter menuIndex="0">
                <set duration=".25">
                    <animate type="alpha" from="0" to="0.5" algorithm="easeincircular"/>
                </set>
            </onMenuEnter>
            <onMenuEnter menuIndex="1">
                <set duration=".2">
                    <animate type="alpha" from="0.5" to="0" algorithm="easeincircular"/>
                </set>
            </onMenuEnter>
        </item>

It worked fine on this commit:
https://bitbucket.org/phulshof/retrofe/commits/f7e8d3fafcce877537792e8b845a4990a9358583

There are no many more commits affecting the animation system. Are they? Please, tell me if you want me to investigate it further or you think it´s enough with this  ;)

BTW, loving the changes from last stable version. Everything works better and there are plenty of new options  ;D

Really thanks!!  ;D You nailed it!! Changing BASE_ITEM_PATH for RETROFE_PATH has fixed it.  ;D

Have you seen the correct log? Mine fails when executing a game, in this log, a Master System one:
Code: [Select]
[2017-01-22 13:15:15] [ERROR] [Launcher] Failed to run: Z:\Super DreamStation Plus\RetroFE 0.6.169\collections\launchers\Fusion\Fusion36\Fusion.exe
(My launchers are on the default folder, without changing the path on any settings.conf)

Share your theme / Super DreamStation Theme
« on: January 22, 2017, 12:12:54 PM »
This is incomplete and I won´t probably update it for long, so take what you like/need. You are free to use this on any build or to reuse any content on any layout.

Full pack with all layouts: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By8ytg-bhyr5bTFIWGd5WVYxcnM/view?usp=sharing

Super DreamStation
  • The theme build is my build´s name, coming from "Super Nintendo", "Dreamcast" and "PlayStation". I tried to bring in more company names but I didn´t find a better name.
  • The theme is for 3 level collections: Company, gaming machines, and games. When there´s not just a company, like Arcade or PC, I´ve decided to have just two of them.
  • Currently there are 33 systems on my build, so I´ve done art for those systems only. The goal is having a layout per system, being really similar but having little small changes. They try to look and feel like art from that generation. That means no fancy layouts for old systems. If you read magazines from those days, or Retrogamer today, you know what I´m looking for.
  • I have the 33 layouts done without properly animating everything.
  • I will put here common art too for all the layouts.
  • Originally I planned to release this with the original art resources and PSDs, but they take much space, so ask for them if you want them, as I keep them in case I end up changing anything.

Main layout (v1.0):
Quote
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By8ytg-bhyr5TXIzdzk5d0l0ZEU

The Main layout is a two level layout. It contains the company menu and the system menu.

As you can see, only some companies are actually featured. Look into the "collections/Main/medium_artwork" for companies, and into "collections/(company)"  for systems of that company. As I said, only Arcade and PC are two level: Entering that menu goes directly into the games of those systems.

Missing:
  • Finish the bottom help menu. It´s currently WIP and I won´t finish as long as new features which need buttons are added. Feel free to change it or delete it from the XML (it´s exactly on the bottom for easy removal).
  • Logos work fine on the second menu as long as you don´t come back from another layout. I´m still thinking on the way to go with this "bug".

Common art

This theme uses these kind of common arts, only on the game menus:
* ctrltype (v1.0): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By8ytg-bhyr5SFZDUUNidHBYMFk
* genre (v1.0): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By8ytg-bhyr5N1hfTTRpSFhTeFU
* manufacturer (v1.0): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By8ytg-bhyr5MXJMWjdhYVBzQmc
* modes (v1.0): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By8ytg-bhyr5dlVSbnhadVBKTDg
* numberPlayers (v1.0): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By8ytg-bhyr5eHRrY0RfSWRveFk
* rating (v1.0): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By8ytg-bhyr5dlB4WVhHekI0SU0

Missing:
  • ctrlType will get custom icons per system. It needs custom XML though currently.
  • modes currently don´t work as there cannot be custom labels on the XML. I plan to add which games are single player, coop multiplayer, or comp multiplayer.
  • rating is heavily WIP. My goal is having all systems using the same rating system, as I personally don´t think having more than one is actually useful at all. As I´m in PAL, I use the PEGI system, but the idea is having similar iconsets for other regions.

And lastly, the system layouts. There´s some space reserved on the upper-right for future art for playlists, and some space reserved for the mode info (single player, coop, comp).

I found a bug yesterday: On latest build, on Windows, nothing launches properly. The problem is that retroFE is searching all the launchers from the collection folder, instead of using the root retroFE folder. I´ve tried returning to 0.7.20b1, but the bug was already there  ;)

General Discussion & Help / Re: ePSXe issue
« on: January 22, 2017, 10:43:17 AM »
Do you have a ".cue" file with that ".iso"? Most games from that generation in PlayStation and Saturn used CD audio, so many games need the cue file to play properly. If you have one, try using it instead of the iso.

Some other games could give problems in ePSXe if not properly mounted... I hate having to mount the isos (currently the only emulator that needs it on my build is ePSXe), but you could try it to see to test if the game is ok.

Some games doesn´t run on the current ePSXe version too, so you may need to take a look at version 1.6.0, which is said to be most compatible...

Sadly the consoles from that era (Saturn, PlayStation and Nintendo 64) usually have complex emulators which fail easily depending on the configuration, game, plugins, etc... If you are not into upscaling the resolution take a look at mednafen, games will work perfectly, but at the original resolution (that´s why I still use ePSXe)...

Off Topic / Re: What do you play atm?
« on: January 21, 2017, 09:18:13 AM »
I´ve been playing:
* Slowly playing Pokémon Sun on 3DS, to the point where I have just finished the main game with no extra quests done.
* Super Smash Bros Brawl cooperative. I played the main game some years ago alone but coop is even better  ;D
* Completed Doom recently on coop too. That's a game that deserves to be replayed every few years!!
* And lastly, yesterday I played through Momodora, a small unpolished indie game. I want to play the later game in the series, but I usually prefer to stick with the previous ones, even if that means tedious ones.

I have Bug! from Saturn on hiatus, that game just have an awful level design  :P

Feature Requests / Suggestions / Re: Per game launcher configuration
« on: January 21, 2017, 09:09:31 AM »
I haven´t tested the feature yet, but it´s the perfect solution for me. Having all the launchers on the same folder it´s IMO a great idea (up until I started using retroFE I had them on different folders with the collections, and it was certainly worse).

I´ll use it for sure once I get some time, as some of my collections need more than one launcher  ;D Thanks again!

It´s strange. I´ve used wired and unwired Xbox360 controllers with no problems... I´ve been getting some issues after connecting an Xbox360 and a Xbox One at the same time (I think somehow analogs from both get confused, but I haven´t tested it properly).

One important note is that if retroFE doesn´t have the focus, controllers won´t work. Sometimes when retroFE loads slower I accidentally click somewhere else on the folder, and then retroFE loads fullscreen but without focus. Alt+Enter to return the focus works perfectly in those cases, but it seems that´s not your problem  :o
