General Discussion & Help / Launching Final Burn Alpha
« on: October 21, 2017, 11:57:17 PM »
So I'm doing something wrong with my FBA launcher. I can simply launch a game from command line from start menu but when I use ITEM_FILENAME or ITEM_FILEPATH in my RetroFE launcher I keep getting errors. All i have to do is run fba64 <rom> from Start menu and it works. Is it because my FBA program is in the Program Files folder? Who has a working FBA launcher?

General Discussion & Help / Re: story.txt section

Too much work. However, I would still love to share my story collection for Apple IIGS. This covers most of the library. Also included is the story.txt file which needs to be moved to the system_artwork folder. If you're looking for anything else for this platform, I have uploaded to EmuMovies. Also I have an updated Sega Genesis XML file if anyone wants it, which includes the majority of the Japanese exclusives. See the attached small 7z file  ;D

General Discussion & Help / story.txt section

Would it be possible to start a section where we can submit story files? I don't remember how I acquired the ones I have, or which ones I modified, but what I do know is that I have created said files for collections that have up until recently have received scant attention (Apple IIGS, some Amiga titles). I would love to share these with the community. I don't think such content would violate any copyrights. Thoughts?

This would be nice. Especially if we can simply edit the XML files to add "Mature" to the genre. My little one is approaching two years old and has seen me fiddling with RetroFE for many moons. Keeping these games out for her would be a big plus!

I found it. The settings.conf in the root directory. Thanks for the help.

I have attached my settings. I have not done anything with this folder in quite some time. All of a sudden this is happening but if I pull MAME games from other collections they show up just fine. Is there a line I can add to disable this?

Help! I went into my Arcade (MAME) system today and it shows "Favorites" instead of "All Games" and I never changed anything. How do I get rid of this nuisance?

General Discussion & Help / Configuring various launchers
« on: August 10, 2017, 04:02:32 PM »
Hello again, gents. As I have been building my own massive RetroFE empire over the last few months, there have been a few headaches along the way with regards to launching games on certain systems. I wanted to touch upon a couple of launcher-related topics. The first one pertains to launching PC-based games that use multiple floppy disks. For the Commodore Amiga, what works for me is using WinUAE, configuring each game (I have a very small Amiga library because of this) within the program and saving the configuration of each game to a .uae file. For the launcher I run WinUAE and point to the .uae file in the item arguments instead of pointing to the actual ROM files themselves. That works great for me as all necessary disks are already included in one shot. Now I have had some limited success with Commodore 64 thus far. It seems like I can launch cartridge-based games without a problem with WinVICE, but loading floppy-based games is still a mystery to me. Ditto with Apple II games. If anyone could drop some wisdom on me I would greatly appreciate.

The second thing I wanted to discuss regarding launchers is if there could be a section (or thread) here on the site covering a "how-to" for creating launchers, system by system so that the same questions would not be asked over and over again. While many of these are easy to set up, others are insanely difficult, and some are better than others. I would definitely like to contribute some of my own setups here on the forum. Not just to help the community, but also to keep an online manual of sorts should the process ever need to be repeated in the future. Is this doable? Would it be OK to start posting in the tutorials section for each system that has been successfully configured? This wealth of knowledge is something you could never put into a manual but would be invaluable.

Thank you that did it.
You're the savior once again! Also got my Studio II emulator working with that launcher.

Main menu in pic 1
Submenu in pic 2
I would like to change the layout so that it's a 3-tier setup with the top 2 tiers looking the same.

General Discussion & Help / Submenus
« on: July 26, 2017, 12:02:07 AM »
I know this topic has probably been beaten to death, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get a second level main menu to look like the top-tier main menu. I have the menu.txt file pointing to a folder called "Consoles" and under that I have console systems. However, the Consoles menu doesn't look like the main. I'm using Aeon Nox. How can I change this?

General Discussion & Help / RCA Studio II launcher for Emma 02?
« on: April 22, 2017, 09:29:06 PM »
Can someone help with running the proper command line for Emma 02? Trying to launch a ROM from the front end but there is no documentation for Emma 02 and Mame emulation of the Studio II is nonfunctional.

After trying out Mame with a handful of different systems, I've noticed a huge difference in the quality of emulation with the standalones. I'm definitely going with Mame for the systems where I don't have another working emulator that launches with RetroFE, but for the other systems I'm just going to leave them alone.

For those who are doing a search on Bally Astrocade for Hyperspin or RetroFE, I finally got this working. Here's a launcher to download (attached). You just need to put the BIOS files in your Mame roms folder and the games in the folder of your choice.

I also have a near-complete set of box art that I have cobbled together from files I have found and ones I have put together to make a complete set.

Ha. Finally got this to work thank you for this.
Interestingly I did not realize you could use Mame to emulate Atari 2600 as well. I have been launching Stella from the front end, and it works well, but using Mame will allow me to cut down the amount of different emulators that I'm using. I'll give this a try with Astrocade as well. If it works I will post my config file because there is NO information out there regarding that system.
