So I "upgraded" to the latest Windows release (10.21) on my test laptop and am having a host of problems.
First, my collection names don't show up in the top-left corner, only the manufacturer (been happening for several versions now)
Second, RetroFE crashes every other time I try to launch it.
Third, the strangest of them all, it retains a "default" memory of games names and won't read any of my hyperlist XML files. I spent an hour trying to figure out if my XML had any mistakes, only to find out that all of my custom XMLs are being ignored. Is there a way to force refresh all of the hyperlist data?

General Discussion & Help / Launching Taito Type X Games From RetroFE?
« on: August 23, 2020, 03:27:58 AM »
I have used a launcher called "cmd" that opens a command prompt in windows when I want RetroFE to launch a game from a .bat file. For many years this has worked fine, but now that I'm using Type X loader and integrating it into this front end, it launches the game, but then goes back to RetroFE while the game is playing. I have tried adding "pause" to my .bat file, which works until I quit the game. There is no "Press any key to continue" prompt as expected, just a black screen where nothing happens, no matter what I press. Until of course I CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill RetroFE. So my two options are having RetroFE annoyingly resume in the background, or forcing close after quitting the game.

I have not yet tried NESicaXLive but I'm thinking it will be the same result.
Any one out there have any luck getting this to work properly?

General Discussion & Help / Removing the "blue bar"
« on: April 02, 2020, 07:49:57 PM »
Where exactly do I go to strip the blue bar from the bottom of the screen in Aeon Nox?

When you are viewing the games in a collection, there is this bar along with a mirror-like reflection of the box art. How can I make that vanish?

« on: May 13, 2019, 03:14:27 AM »
I am using a Pi 3B+ with Raspbian Stretch using the line:
Code: [Select]
bash <(curl -s https://bitbucket.org/phulshof/retrofe/raw/default/Scripts/Raspi2/install.sh)Install is NOT working. It makes a RetroFE folder in root but not all is there. I have tried with and without SU access. Can anyone advise?

General Discussion & Help / Changing Aeon Nox to 4:3 ratio?
« on: April 22, 2019, 03:33:05 PM »
I'm copying (some of) my collection over to a Pi with a 4:3 monitor. Does Aeon Nox have native 4:3 support (is there a change in the settings) or do I need to download a 4:3 version of the theme?

EDIT: I see it now. Deleting layout.xml and renaming layout 4x3.xml to layout.xml

Recently I had decided to update my Sega Genesis XML file to reflect any additions to my collection. For a while, each game I added would show up when I would scroll over to that particular game in the menu.

For example, if I add just "Aah Harimanada" to the original XML file, and then go into the Genesis collection, the information shows up. But it got to a point where that would stop working as I added more missing titles. I ended up restoring the default XML file and manually added all my new titles in one shot. None of the newly added titles show now.

I also added a collection called "Sega Mega Drive" with the exact same XML file (renamed "Sega Mega Drive") and I am not having this problem. I went a step further and changed my metadata.type in the settings.conf for my Sega Genesis collection to a different name, for example, "Sega Genesiss" and renamed the XML file accordingly. After I did this, none of the titles in my collection would show information.

I believe there is some kind of bug that is affecting this. Attached is the XML file I have created. I have loaded this into a couple of different computers now with the same result, and only the "Sega Genesis" collection is affected by this. Is there something wrong with my XML file? It's the second time I have created this, and none of my import games from Japan or China are showing information from the XML file. What gives?

General Discussion & Help / Launching Final Burn Alpha
« on: October 21, 2017, 11:57:17 PM »
So I'm doing something wrong with my FBA launcher. I can simply launch a game from command line from start menu but when I use ITEM_FILENAME or ITEM_FILEPATH in my RetroFE launcher I keep getting errors. All i have to do is run fba64 <rom> from Start menu and it works. Is it because my FBA program is in the Program Files folder? Who has a working FBA launcher?

General Discussion & Help / story.txt section
« on: October 18, 2017, 04:01:28 PM »
Would it be possible to start a section where we can submit story files? I don't remember how I acquired the ones I have, or which ones I modified, but what I do know is that I have created said files for collections that have up until recently have received scant attention (Apple IIGS, some Amiga titles). I would love to share these with the community. I don't think such content would violate any copyrights. Thoughts?

General Discussion & Help / Stuck on "Favorites"
« on: September 03, 2017, 08:42:25 PM »
Help! I went into my Arcade (MAME) system today and it shows "Favorites" instead of "All Games" and I never changed anything. How do I get rid of this nuisance?

General Discussion & Help / Configuring various launchers
« on: August 10, 2017, 04:02:32 PM »
Hello again, gents. As I have been building my own massive RetroFE empire over the last few months, there have been a few headaches along the way with regards to launching games on certain systems. I wanted to touch upon a couple of launcher-related topics. The first one pertains to launching PC-based games that use multiple floppy disks. For the Commodore Amiga, what works for me is using WinUAE, configuring each game (I have a very small Amiga library because of this) within the program and saving the configuration of each game to a .uae file. For the launcher I run WinUAE and point to the .uae file in the item arguments instead of pointing to the actual ROM files themselves. That works great for me as all necessary disks are already included in one shot. Now I have had some limited success with Commodore 64 thus far. It seems like I can launch cartridge-based games without a problem with WinVICE, but loading floppy-based games is still a mystery to me. Ditto with Apple II games. If anyone could drop some wisdom on me I would greatly appreciate.

The second thing I wanted to discuss regarding launchers is if there could be a section (or thread) here on the site covering a "how-to" for creating launchers, system by system so that the same questions would not be asked over and over again. While many of these are easy to set up, others are insanely difficult, and some are better than others. I would definitely like to contribute some of my own setups here on the forum. Not just to help the community, but also to keep an online manual of sorts should the process ever need to be repeated in the future. Is this doable? Would it be OK to start posting in the tutorials section for each system that has been successfully configured? This wealth of knowledge is something you could never put into a manual but would be invaluable.

General Discussion & Help / Submenus
« on: July 26, 2017, 12:02:07 AM »
I know this topic has probably been beaten to death, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get a second level main menu to look like the top-tier main menu. I have the menu.txt file pointing to a folder called "Consoles" and under that I have console systems. However, the Consoles menu doesn't look like the main. I'm using Aeon Nox. How can I change this?

General Discussion & Help / RCA Studio II launcher for Emma 02?
« on: April 22, 2017, 09:29:06 PM »
Can someone help with running the proper command line for Emma 02? Trying to launch a ROM from the front end but there is no documentation for Emma 02 and Mame emulation of the Studio II is nonfunctional.

Has anyone had any success launching MAME-based systems from the frontend? The consensus is that Astrocade should be run from MAME, but the only thing I can get to run is the 4-in-1 that comes with the system. How do I configure the settings file for the launcher to run any particular Astrocade (or any other console reliant on MAME) game?

Also having a related problem with PC Engine & TurboGrafx-16 roms launching from RetroFE. I have tried Mednafen, Ootake, RetroArch and MagicEngine with no luck at all. I'm assuming I have the same problem, I can't get any of these emulators to launch a rom from within.

I'm trying to make a collection for Neo Geo based on my bigger MAME set but it keeps listing every ROM in the folder instead of just Neo Geo games. What am I doing wrong here?

Attached are the xml in hyperlist and settings for the collection.

Names are mame standard
