General Discussion & Help / Re: Setup RetroFE with Retropie X86
« on: September 03, 2017, 09:10:42 PM »
I put the roms in the retropie/roms folder. I put all of the assets in their respective folders. I am getting a blank list and no video playback.
Everything working fine with attractmode though...

You might want to take a look at the Pi3 image thread.  If you use the x86 version of RetroPie on this device, you can use the RetroFE install script that I have read I have posted there.  I did my development of that script on RetroPie Ubuntu, so it should work fine on your setup.

That script creates all the launchers needed for the RetroPie systems, and uses the same RunCommand script as RetroPie to invoke the emulators.  As such, it will use RetroArch cores where configured.

You saved me so much time by doing this. So, when i create a collection, I could just keep the locations of all the artwork or change them to match the retropie image correct? That and point it to the right launcher.

e.g.
retropie/roms/*

I compiled RetroFE, I was just looking to use retroarch and the cores to work with it. Hopefully I can figure it out.

Thanks Pieter!

So, I've been gone for a while and I was messing around with Raspberry Pi3 and Attractmode. I still don't like attractmode. ;D
I got my hands on a tiny X86 Machine and installed Linux mint 18. (ubuntu is too heavy for this thing)
I got things working by installing Retropie X86. Can anyone show me how to setup the libretro cores to work with RetroFE?

Or if there is an easier way to setup retroarch and RetroFE on linux, let me know.

Is there an image of RetroPie with RetroFE? I tried attractmode and it just didn't feel right.

Or do I just compile a copy in Raspbian and install RetroArch?

To add a field in every game entry? I don't think I can replace text when a return is involved.

I tried hitting shift+enter but I couldn't make the line longer.

Is there an app that can edit the XML lists and attributes? I can never save them back in the correct way.

Help / Re: Custom XML lists
« on: December 30, 2016, 07:02:13 PM »
When booting, RetroFE checks whether meta.db exists. If it does not, it parses all XML files in the meta/hyperlists directory based on the supported fields, ignores all unsupported fields, and puts the information in the meta.db database. The games are listed under name that matches the XML file name. RetroFE matches that information with a collection either by name of the collection or by the metadata.type setting in the collection's settings.conf file if it exists. As an example:
The information in meta/hyperlists/Nintendo Entertainment System.xml will be put in the database under the collection Nintendo Entertainment System. If a collection is named Nintendo Entertainment System (without metadata.type set to something else) or a collection has metadata.type = Nintendo Entertainment System in the settings.conf file, RetroFE will pull the information from that part of the database by matching the filename of the rom to the database entry.
So if I want a collection to use a specific XML list, I just save that as the metadata type?

How does retroFE parse the info as to what xml list to use?

The predefined variables are manufacturer, year, genre, players and rating?

Help / Custom XML lists
« on: December 29, 2016, 12:53:06 AM »
I was wondering how data is pulled from XMLs. I was thinking of implementing custom images based on XML keywords.
For example instead of "genre" I was thinking of using a keyword like "decade" and based on that, do a reloadableimage thats "80s", "90s", etc.
The question is, how do I create an XML that would do that?

I've looked through all of Hyperspin, Attractmode, and Emumovies trying to find clean versions(transparent background) genre wheel art.
I cannot for the life of me find it. Ideally I would like the wheels shown here at 2:00.

Also shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V1TpkOxFBs
All I've been able to find is these wheels

Do I need a layout.xml in the shooters collection and fighters collection? Is there a setting that needs to be used for the collection to use a different layout XML?
