Help / Layout Config Questions Help Request
« on: January 01, 2022, 08:57:18 AM »
Hi There
I am new to using RetroFE and have need playing around with the "Carousel 16x9" layout, by changing / hashing out items in the config files to develop a layout that I am happy with. With that in mind, there are a few items that I cannot resolve which I hope that someone  can help me with. These are:

1. Removing the "Main" collection completely

I have figured out how to launch RetroFE directly to the "MAME" collection, but if I press the "ESC" key it goes back to the "Main" collection.

Question - How can I remove "Main" collection completely? eg. If I press the "ESC" key on the "MAME" collection, nothing will happen?

2. How to Filter the games list in the "MAME" collection

As I understand (Please correct me if I am wrong), the game list in my "MAME" collection is based on what I have in the MAME rom directory.

Question - Is there way to filter in the RetroFE config options somehow to remove unwanted game list items from MAME such as casino, clones and mahjong?

3. RetroFE remembering last selected game in the MAME list

I have noticed that when re launching RetroFE, that it always goes to the "1942" selection in the game list.

Question - Is these a way to configure RetroFE when launched, to start on the last selected games list? eg. if "Outrun" was last scrolled to when quitting RetroFE, when re-launching RetroFE, the selection will start at "Outrun" and not "1942"

4. Video stretching

I have attached two video screen captures of the current MAME layout. These are:

"Outrun" - showing the horizontal video layout
"1942" - Showing the vertical video layout

I have also attached the layout config section where I have made changes to the stretching section of the config (highlighted changes in yellow) for reference.

My current PC screen resolution is: 1920 x 1080

Question - How can I stretch both the horizontal and vertical games selected on the "MAME" collection games list so that the video occupies the complete area of the screen nicely? Currently in the "Outrun" and "1942" screen capture examples provide show there unwanted black areas on the left and right of the video capture.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Regards

D

General Discussion & Help / RetroFE new starter questions
« on: March 20, 2018, 11:56:02 AM »
Hi

I have a few question as a new starter about the RetroFE which I hope someone is able to answer:

1. Is the games selection list in the emulator (game) selection layout for any emulator, is it a XML file? ie. For MAME you use an MAME 0.195 XML file, for Model2 you use an Model2 XML file ... etc?

2. Is there a tool that you can use to edit XML files. For example, MAME has arcade games, pokey games, console games, working games, non working games  ... etc. If I want to only have a MAME XML file that only has working arcade games, how can this be done?

3. Is there a location where I can download the XMl files for emulators. I note on the RetroFE download web page that you are able to download the MAME 0.195 XML file.

4. Further to question 2 above, if for example I have a MAME Arcade XML file created, what is the best way to delete unwanted games.

5. For MAME emulation, I intend using the ARCADE64 0.195 with RetroFE. Does anyone know if there is a equivalent:

a) no nag version of ARCADE64

b) XML file for ARCADE64

6. Does RetroFE support the X-Arcade (tank version) joystick? and if so, what is the configuration required to have it operational with RetroFE?

7. I came across the RocketLauncher Wiki web site (http://www.rlauncher.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page), and I note that RocketLauncher supports RetroFE.

What is the benefit of using Rocketlauncher with RetroFE? Can any one give examples of using RocketLauncher with RetroFE.

Look forward to replies.

Thank you.

Help / Layout Creation Help Request
« on: March 19, 2018, 09:56:10 AM »
Hi

I am new to the RetroFE and I hope that someone is able to assist me in creating two very simple layouts for my use.

I have looked into some examples and the RetroFE web site documentation as a starting point, but found it to be confusing, hence for my request.

I seek help in creating the following two simple layouts below. The later layout is based on an old FE which is called ArcadeOS which I like to modernise to have video rather than screen shots.

1. Emulator Selection Layout:

For this Layout, I have downloaded some emulator wheel logos from the HyperSpin web site. ie. Mame, Daphne.

All that I wish for the layout to do is the following:

a) Have the emulator selection wheel logos centered on the screen so that it scrolls vertically. I may only have a handful of emulators logos to select from. I intend to start with one (Mame) and add others to it.
b) The background for the logos randomly plays in the background full screen video of the emulator selected.

2. Emulator Layout:

This layout I intend to use for each of the emulators selected from the Emulator Selection Layout.

The closest layout that I could find that has some of the features I seek is the "Antimatic" layout on the RetroFE layout download page.

I seek a very simple equivalent to the "Antimatic" layout that only does the following:

a) Have the game selection wheel logos left or right justified on the screen so that it scrolls vertically like a wheel.
b) For the background, have a full screen video of the game playing repeatedly.
c) The game selection wheel logo to be overlaid in front of the background.

If possible:

d) Adjust the transparency of the game selection wheel, but the chosen wheel logo has no transparency and is slightly enlarged.

Other Questions:

1. I understamd the "Emulator Layout" is to be placed in the following directory:

"...\RetroFE\layouts"

But with the "Emulator Selection Layout", were is the layout supposed to be placed?, and how is ReteoFE configured to launch the "Emulator Selection Layout"?

I look forward to your help with the above.

Thank you.
D.
