General Discussion & Help / Sega CD, Launcher Not configured...?
« on: June 02, 2018, 05:16:47 AM »
Hi Peter, I say that knowing full well you're going to end up helping me out once again.

I know you don't do RetroArch but it supports more games and I've been working on expanding my roster... Working on Sega CD right now.

Here's my Launcher pad under launchers.windows (Had to go back to Windows to play Ps2 games.. :( )

executable = C:\Users\Sephiroth\RetroArch\retroarch.exe
arguments = -L "C:\Users\Sephiroth\RetroArch\cores\genesis_plus_gx_libretro.dll" "%ITEM_FILEPATH%"

And then my settings.conf file in Collections\Sega CD\

# Uncomment and edit the following line to use a different ROM path.
#list.path = %BASE_ITEM_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\roms
list.includeMissingItems = false
list.extensions = zip, .bin
list.menuSort = yes

launcher = Sega CD
#metadata.type = MAME

#media.screenshot      = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\screenshot
#media.screentitle     = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\screentitle
#media.artwork_back    = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\artwork_back
#media.artwork_front   = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\artwork_front
#media.logo            = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\logo
#media.medium_back     = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\medium_back
#media.medium_front    = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\medium_front
#media.screenshot      = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\screenshot
#media.screentitle     = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\screentitle
#media.video           = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\video
#media.system_artwork  = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\system_artwork

I've changed the name, checked spelling, I've set up about 7 other systems I haven't had an issue until Sega CD.  I can however launch via CMD With C:\Users\Sephiroth\Downloads\RetroArch\retroarch.exe -L "C:\Users\Sephiroth\Downloads\RetroArch\cores\genesis_plus_gx_libretro.dll" "R:\RetroFE\collections\Sega CD\roms\Adventures of Batman & Robin, The (USA).bin"

Of course, log files are attached as well. I've been battling this kind of off and on for a week and figured it was time for you to tell me how obvious the fix is.

Feature Requests / Suggestions / Shaders/BGFX
« on: March 19, 2018, 11:58:59 AM »
I'm a -huge- fan of CRT shaders because well... all our favorite games look awful on 4k TVs and honestly I'd die a happy man if I never had to carry around another CRT Television in my life. I love that I can get this effect without the need of the actual TV.

I've actually contemplated going through and making a SQ Movie of all of the games I have with shaders enabled but then realized that I change my shaders depending on the TV I am using and it would look quite a bit off if I slipped in a different TV.

First, would it even be possible to port Shaders from Mame/Retroarch/whatever else you guys use? I personally use Mame, Retroarch, and Demul(Not a fan but it's all there is).

I absolutely love this front end simply because I do what I want when I want with it, and once you kind of understand the logic behind it... it's logical (Looking at you Hyperspin)

I did a forum search and didn't find anything with bgfx/shaders but if I missed it please point me in the right direction. If there's some backwards way of implementing it let me know - and if you have some general grunt work you'd like me to do I'm not a coder but I kind of get computers and can learn.

Feature Requests / Suggestions / Volunteer board
« on: February 04, 2018, 04:26:51 PM »
I don't have much coding expertise and most of what I know about it I probably learned from setting up RetroFE. I really -really- like it over all of the other Front Ends because it's easily customizable and the devs are really into making it easy for the end user. That said, if there was some grunt work that you needed to be done I feel like I could do some random stuff with a little guidance - So here's my proposal:

Make a forum subject with "Bounties" For you that gives a pretty in detail description of ways we could help you with things you need help with. I know you have mentioned a few different times about things you don't have expertise with and would love help with, I think if we had a board right on the front page with ways to help, I think it would be received well. Right now I have no idea how to help - I've actually been trying to get a Raspberry Pi image together as mentioned on one of your other boards but I'm just having one hell of a time getting it to work.

I feel like this would help all of us understand the massive undertaking it is creating a front end this good, and would enable us all to easily help out with things we are good at. If this does exist, I haven't found it and maybe a redirect from here would help as well.

Had this happen, was trying to figure out why MAME wasn't working. I got this error and RetroFE just would not respond, I ended up leaving it as I wanted to see the bug I was getting. I've had a few unresponsive moments since I reinstalled Linux ( I made a mistake trying to change the bootup images and couldn't get Linux back) and this error kind of confuses me. It ends the string with a Segmentation fault (core dumped).

General Discussion & Help / Linux Transfer
« on: December 30, 2017, 06:22:27 PM »
Now that I've got everything (mostly, when I transferred from Windows/Linux a lot of big files were lost in the shuffle and my backups didn't copy correctly either and now I'm at my download limit for the month, so... Gotta wait until next year :P) up and running the way I like it (Big props to Pieter Hulshoff ) I have a second computer I'd like to set up ( And a Pie2 but that's another day) do I need to reinstall everything again or is there a way to copy all the files I already have to that one? Honestly, if it were windows I'd generalize it and create a Windows Image so I can have a backup when it blows up as well and then I'd be set but I'm new to Linux and I'm still wrapping my head around how it installs everything. I'm on Ubuntu 17.0x right now if that matters.

Because I tend to ramble...
TL;Dr:
Can you just copy and paste a fully set up system in another? Is there any caveats to doing so?

General Discussion & Help / Linux Nub Help
« on: December 19, 2017, 05:29:47 PM »
I've followed the directions completely (took me a bit to understand what was going on, I'm an IT guy but I've never really dived into Linux until now. I want to learn so I went the Linux route for RetroFE)

I think I have all the files, but I don't know how to launch RetroFE in Linux, if I open the app it just says it cannot display retro fe and there is no application installed.

I'd really like to get the Linux side up as the Windows version(Windows 10... ugh) has a lot of hiccups for me. (ie windows updates, PS3 controller issues, etc) and I want this thing to be running pretty before I throw it into a cabinet.

TL;DR:
How do I execute the RetroFE Front End in Linux?
