Holding down the keys on the controller to move between letters or genres works only one time.

If you keep the same keys pressed but on the keyboard to move between letters or genres it jumps between them until you stop pressing the key.

I am using the xbox series controller connected to the official microsoft dongle.

It is a technical limitation using these actions with a controller or it could be solved by editing the Retrofe code?

First of all, Merry Christmas everyone. I've been very busy polishing some new designs I'm working on and have come up with a couple of ideas that could add more quality to RetroFE:

It would be very good if apart from the 4 main sounds, you could customize some more, such as: Enter a menu or return to a previous menu, even with the option to customize from which menu you go another. Example:

<sound type="load" src="example1.wav" /> "when you load the layout"
<sound type="highlight" src="example2.wav" /> "when you move through the menu"
<sound type="select" src="example3.wav" /> "When select a game to play"
<sound type="unload" src="example4.wav" /> "when you close the layout"
the new additions

<sound type="menu_index0_select"    src="example5.wav" /> "when you select the menu item to enter a submenu"
<sound type="menu_index1_select"    src="example6.wav" /> "when you select the submenu item to enter a submenu 2"
<sound type="menu_index1_back"    src="example7.wav" /> "when you return from the submenu to the previous menu"

I have not included menu_index0_back, because it is the same as the "unload" sound

menu_index0_select to menu_index9_select for example
menu_index1_back to menu_index8_back for example

When startCollectionEnter is yes, you select the first item from the main menu of the layout and load the submenu, this causes animations that are defined as onMenuEnter menuIndex = "1" to load.

I would like to be able to define the onEnter animations also with the possibility menuIndex = "0" and menuIndex = "1" so that in this way you can make different animations when you load that submenu for the first time or when you return to it after going through the main menu.

for example: When startCollectionEnter is yes, it would load the animation onEnter menuIndex = "1" instead of onMenuEnter menuIndex = "1". If while in the submenu, you go back to the main menu and select the item again to go to the submenu, in this case you would load onMenuEnter menuIndex = "1".

It's a bit complicated to explain, but I hope you understand.

I have studies in development of management applications and in various programming languages such as c, c ++, javascript. . I also lack time because of my work (it has nothing to do with computing) but I would be willing to let you show me the insides of RetroFe and how the modifications are made to be able to add more things in the future. All the Layouts that I have created and that I continue to create in private are the result of my passion for the development of graphical interfaces, although I love programming.

I'm really excited to see that you keep improving RetroFe and adding new features. Thanks a lot Pieter Hulshoff.

Feature Requests / Suggestions / Control.conf per layout.xml
« on: February 27, 2021, 03:56:58 PM »
Can you program to use a controls.conf per layout to include a diferent control configuration when loading a inside layout.xml?

Creating a control.conf file next to its corresponding layout.xml they would be loaded together and would overwrite the previous control.conf file, in this way we could have a more precise control of the keys in all the frontend.

If this helps improve RetroFe's performance, that's great. Because when I use very large images, it suffers a lot both in the movement and in the loading of the images.

Every so often I check the RetroFE repository for code changes. Today I have realized that the repository no longer exists. What happened?

We could create the layout among a few, so that it was completely original and not copy what already exists in order to give Retrofe its own identity

General Discussion & Help / ubuntu 20.04 Problems compiling retrofe
« on: April 29, 2020, 12:04:47 PM »
I would like to use ubuntu 20.04 for the development of my layout, but I cannot compile retrofe following the steps of the official manual.

Could someone tell me what I do to compile it in Ubuntu 20.04?

Thanks Pieter Hulshoff, with these contributions I already have new material to try

Thanks, as always Pieter Hulshoff  ;)

I'm testing and I found some mistakes because of the commit: 8b9bb5f "Changed screenscaling so it scales the entire screen rather than individual objects. This is needed to prevent incorrect scaling between objects with a fixed width/height and aspect scaled items."

My screen resolution is 2560x1440

Case 1: Using a resolution 1920x1080 in the file "layout.xml" and fullscreen = no in the file "settings.conf"
  • Everything scales perfect except what I have limited using the containerWidth and containerHeight parameters
Case 2: Using a resolution 1920x1080 in the file "layout.xml" and fullscreen = yes in the file "settings.conf"
  • There are many errors in the scaling of objects and they even move from where you defined with x and y.

* I keep trying things, if I find something else I tell you.

Pieter Hulshoff can you please compile the lastest commits for to test some new features of RetroFe?

Pieter Hulshoff I would like to have the option of jumping between the playlist while you continue pressing the nextPlaylist / prevPlaylist button but in an intuitive way, I explained:

Now, when you press the nextPlaylist button, you go to the next playlist, but first the onPlaylistExit animation is executed and then the onPlaylistEnter animation is executed. This is repeated whenever you want to move from one playlist to another and it becomes very slow.

I would like to include a new animation called onPlaylistChange. What would this new animation be for?

By pressing and holding the nextPlaylist button, it would go from playlist to playlist but only in the onPlaylistChange animation. That is:

1. Enter the onPlaylistExit animation and then the animation onPlaylistChange.
2. The onPlaylistChange animation will be run as long as you do not release the nextPlaylist button and in this way you control the time it takes to go from one playlist to another.
3. When you release the nextPlaylist button, the onPlaylistEnter animation is executed.

* The same could also be applied to the letterUp / letterDown buttons adding also the animation onMenuJumpChange.
