Feature Requests / Suggestions / Re: APNG
« on: April 29, 2022, 07:39:49 AM »
gstreamer doesn't support it. And nobody wants it. HyperSpin 2-4 years ago added functionality for animated wheels, (once a windows update literally stopped the frontend from working) and they added that. Nobody wanted or asked for it. And nobody utilized it since. And they're all about the flash stuff (cuz it was implemented via swf).

I understand how to create it, that does nothing. It's not a priority for all the reasons I listed before. If you want it, you will have to do it yourself or hire someone to do it. That's the bottom line that you don't understand.

I have no interest in it. You still didn't cite a source for the community creating them to make it worth it. Also, the "pinball" communities are not in great demand and most of the creators and communities are very insulated. They are protective of their media and don't want anyone outside of that to use or enjoy it. So you're basically talking yourself out of the feature since you can't do it yourself.

First, see my edit.

Second, if people are creating apngs en masse, please cite your source. If there is a market for them it's more likely to have your request granted.

As far as your comments towards me, have fun bud :) I know the programming language and can modify it to my pleasure. I've been participating in, bug fixing, and moderating frontend, middleware, and emulation subjects for years. So yes, I have an idea of what is requested and how to implement it. Have a nice day  :)

Frankly, I don't see a point in this. If you want screenshots, use png images. If you want video, use the various formats supported. Most of the sites where people download media have images and videos. Virtually nobody is creating gifs or apng.

RetroFE is open source. So if you want this feature feel free to create a PR. If the maintenance burden isn't too much and you don't hack the codebase to hell I don't see why Pieter wouldn't merge it.

If there's any way non coders can help, let me know!

There's not.

Only post actual themes here that can be used with a base RetroFE install. Any "themes" that are builds or require 3rd party add-ons, keep to your discord groups, youtube channels, etc. They will not be tolerated here. Thanks!

Help / Re: Layout Config Questions Help Request
« on: January 02, 2022, 06:38:23 AM »
1. Remove the keybind for Esc from the controls ini. Otherwise you'll have to completely revamp the layout to only handle a single collection. That's why Pieter said removing the keybind was the easy option.

2. Read the documentation here:

4. You have to alter the layout xml code.

make a list of the roms for the alt launcher and take 5 mins to write a script to autogenerate the launcher files...

Please don't bump your own topics in general, especially when not even a week has passed on a feature request where there is only a single active dev.

Thanks for the reply. I will zip a setup and PM you the link sometime this week.

Disclaimer: I haven't messed with RetroFE in a while.

I recently tried to create a collection using a .sub file from the parent collection which uses an include, txt. The problem is it ignores the contents of the sub file and just displays the entire include of the parent directory.

If there is something I'm doing wrong please inform me on how to fix it. Otherwise, this feature is broken.

Help / Re: A way to show previous and next playlist?
« on: March 14, 2021, 11:11:32 PM »
This is one of the few features the frontend lacks for me and something I've requested in the past.

A menu for playlists is much better in terms of presentation and ease of use. Tapping the next/prev keys is pretty clumsy if you have more than a few playlists.

14 is 10.7 and since it's open source anyone can compile it at any time.

You specify the emulator executable path in the launcher file so that can be anywhere. Likewise, you can specify the location of roms and any media in the settings.conf file for each collection so they can be anywhere as well.
