When I start the program from the shortcut or the EXE itself, nothing happens. The last few lines of the log file are:

The Windows event viewer picks it up as an APPCRASH. The computer isn't on a domain, and is running Windows 10 Home. Has anybody else experienced this and found a solution?

Which version are you running and on what operating system?
-
This is version 0.10.21 (freshly downloaded and extracted), running on Windows 10 Home 20H2.
Here's a new logfile paste, if it's helpful:

You will have multiple monitors. If you make monitors = 3 In the settings this will fix this but will blank other monitors. It will work with 1 2 or 3 monitors then.
-
Unfortunately, no luck. I got the same results with monitors = 3 and numScreens = 3. Nothing ever displays on the screen.
Strangely enough, CoinOPS runs fine on this computer.
-
Copy the settings.conf monitor part(all of it) from coinops I had issues untill I set all monitors up this way.
Do you have 2 or 3 montiors?
-
Still the same result, but thank you for the suggestions. I have 2 monitors.
-
ok try disconnecting one monitor and running it? if so I can think of few other things that may fix this
-
No luck yet.
My video card has 1 DVI port, 1 HDMI, and 3 Displayports. Right now I'm hooked up to the HDMI and DVI, and I tried both individually.
As an experiment, I've ordered a Displayport to HDMI cable. I doubt that'll fix things, but I've seen stranger things happen before.
-
I wonder if it might be a problem with this newer version of RetroFE. I just downloaded 0.10.0 and it loads up with no problems.
The CoinOPS builds that also work are using 0.10.6, 0.10.5, and 0.9.13
Versions I've found that immediately quit with this same error are 0.10.17, 0.10.20, and 0.10.21
Is there somewhere to download the versions between 0.10.6 and 0.10.17? I can try them all to help pinpoint which version stops working.
-
Are you running win10 N if so you need the media player addon for this to work now
-
Nope, this is regular Windows 10 Home -- version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.985).
The new displayport to HDMI cable doesn't seem to help anything, unfortunately.
-
This problem probably got introduced when I added support for multiple monitors or when I switched to the latest SDL and gstreamer libraries. I will do some searching.

I have someone else reporting the same thing at present its rare though

I have the same problem; SDL crash with version 0.10.20.

Do you have multiple monitors as well?
-
In case it helps narrow stuff down, I still had the error after disconnecting one monitor (leaving only one connected to the computer) and rebooting.
-
It does. As far as I can tell, this was caused by the update to the latest SDL library. This update enables support for sensors, e.g. force feedback, gyro measurement, etc. RetroFE initializes everything by default, but apparently some Windows installations restrict access to those sensors. I'll have to run some trial and error tests (since I cannot reproduce the problem on my own systems) to see which of the flags causes this issue, and to see whether RetroFE can do without that flag.

I'm happy to help test, if you'd like. My system is very reliable at failing this way.

I have one monitor only.

Ok, try this executable. It should still crash, but if you upload the log file it should at least show me WHY it crashes. I should be able to fix it from there.
-
Very strange. Unfortunately (I think) this one didn't crash and it started up fine.

It works. Did you modified SDL Function ?
-
That’s odd. I replaced the initialize everything with an initialize for each individual subsystem. Unless they forgot to update their documentation, this should have crashed....
Oh well, if it works, it works.
-
Turns out they forgot to update the documentation. I just checked the source code, and there’re an additional flag in the latest versions that initializes the sensors.

Nice find -- thank you!
