RetroFE has been using the Aeon Nox theme as default theme for quite a while now, but as recent releases have shown us: RetroFE is capable of so much more, provided people add all the artwork necessary to make it look pretty. I was wondering: is it time for RetroFE to shift to a new default theme, and if so: which one? What are your thoughts?
-
Long as it’s not coinops, sounds good.
-
I've used ergo proxy for a long time myself

I don't see any reason to change the default theme, personally. From what I've seen there haven't really been any new themes posted here anyway.
If you were to change it for whatever reason, stick with a "global" theme that doesn't rely on per system artwork. I agree with Signum regarding not changing it to any coinops theme.
-
A group I belong to, along with permission from the theme creators have adapted a lot of them for 3 tiers. If this is useful, I’m sure we can have them uploaded to the theme page or readily available through some means.
-
Lets make one?
Standard folder/file names and don't use mode = "layout" for that stuff.
Those themes that have the custom eplogos, maincharacter etc in layout are fantastic, but they are killing me with what we are doin. haha
-
We could create the layout among a few, so that it was completely original and not copy what already exists in order to give Retrofe its own identity
-
I agree that this theme should be base on standard art or art already covered by the theme so people do not have to go out and gather tons of artwork by themselves. A cooperative achievement would be welcome in that regard. If it requires additional changes to the RetroFE code I will happily implement them.
I have no intention of copying or using the CoinOPS theme btw, for those who seem worried about that. I just think we could create something prettier than what we currently have to give RetroFE a unique look among front-ends.

I can Help if needed for this task (i made logo, video theme and retroFE layout for personal use)

It would be great to see the default theme be multi tiered.
-
A theme with transition vidéo between theme would be great.
Multi-tiered would be ok with built-in theme changer (reboot function on retroFe 0.10.0) compatible with all retroFE theme.
Question : horizontal/vertical, multiple vidéo or not, system based or unified etc. ? perhaps make a survey ?
Need to stop indivduality and make the retroFe community great again without egoism or jealousy...
Pieter, if needed just tell me, i would help :)

So, start it off. First you need a core system group. HyperSpin has a group of core systems and alternative systems. The smaller the core, the quicker the project can be completed.
My proposal:
MAME
Atari 2600
Nintendo Entertainment System
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Sega Genesis
Sony PlayStation
Nintendo 64
Nintendo GameCube
Sega Dreamcast
Sony PlayStation 2
Nintendo Wii

Strongly disagree. A default theme should work regardless of which platforms you have in your setup.
-
So a standard theme should encompass every system ever made? So this theme would need media for every system then, right?

Maybe I misunderstood what you meant. I was saying a default theme should be one that doesn't require a bunch of special artwork for each platform, just the standard logos and box art that can be found everywhere.
Not like a lot of those "packs" and themes that random groups put out where you can't just setup a platform and have it look like the others.
