Title: New user, some questions.
Post by: Dante82 on January 18, 2020, 01:32:50 AM
Hello - I’ve recently been introduced to RetroFE via CoinOPs Arcadia 5. I’ve been a long time HyperSpin user and would like to possibly switch to this for my arcade cab.

I’d like to know if there is a way to speed up scrolling through systems and when on a system wheel. I find it seems very sluggish when I move compared to how fast HS does. I use 2 Ultrastik 360s. I have a decent system consisting of an i7 8700k and a 1050ti on Win7. I would think my system would be able to run this faster than it acts.

Also LEDBlinky is an essential part of my set up....does RetroFE support it? I can’t find an answer in RetroFE’s documentation or LEDBlinky’s.

Thanks

Regarding the scrolling, check the layout docs. IIRC there's a param for that.

Do keep in mind that CoinOPS loads a ton of artwork though. Sluggishness might also be caused by the speed of your HDD. BP made an update that reduced the amount of artwork to speed things up as well.

Blinky is not supported yet; in all honesty, I've never looked at it, since I don't own one. I don't even know its interface definition.

How exactly does HyperSpin support it?

In Acadia 5 go into advanced setting folder and run the fast skin bat...this will stop loading of art while scrolling...a fast ssd is needed to load all this art smoothly more than cpu etc

How exactly does HyperSpin support it?

I think Hyperspin sends “event” codes to LEDBlinky depending on what is happening. For example, a startup event code, a game start event code, game change event code, system change event code, etc.
So basically RetroFE would have to do this too to tell LEDBlinky what to do.

However upon thinking about this Rlauncher has LEDBlinky support so you’re not missing much by RetroFE not having support for It. Also I found out LEDBlinky supports MAME by itself via Mame’s output system so I could use my led buttons with CoinOPs without Rlauncher.

Ok that makes sense then....I have a fast Samsung EVO SSD as my primary drive but I run all my ROMs and CoinOPs off a secondary 5900 rpm drive in my cabinet. I have enough room to move CoinOPs to my primary SSD. If not I’ll run that advanced setting.
