Nice take on my wip, glad someone found it useful.
I was gonna do static but it means the video being in the same place for each theme which I didn't want so I used full screen video files instead.

Yeah, I didnt want as much moving around stuff.  Just the boxes and carts will slide off and on.  So thanks for the good base.  I used the fading wheel on system layouts as I liked that too.

Cheers!

Just out of curiosity: the videos looks a bit choppy here and there. Is that just the recording or does RetroFE really run like that for you?

Updated Subject. Updated post 1 with screenshots of all the layouts.  Updated system layouts to have the wheel behind the box art.  Updated Atari ST to fix Border.  Shrunk the controller on Sinclair ZX Spectrum.  Fixed issue with main video border on Casio PV-1000.  Changed the Atari Lynx Main characters.  Reused the mainconsole image for Arcadia 2001 for the systemconsole image as the systemconsole image was too low resolution.  Updated download here:

Updated Subject. Updated post 1 with screenshots of all the layouts.

Looks like the forum is cutting off half of the screenshot. It would probably be a better idea to have them in an imgur album and post a link to that so the images aren't cutoff and the page takes forever to load trying to load all those images.

Well I just zoomed my browser out to see the whole thing :)

I updated it to be in 1 album instead and put a link to the album on imgur.  Seemed like the forum section was periodically not loading possibly becasue I had 128 images in 1 post that were 1920x1080.  Woops.  Yeah yeah, I am not good with video so screenshots will do check post 1!

Cheers!

I made a small change in the menu setup by adding a menu for each index (0-2); your current setup didn't work for all collections, and added it to the theme download page.

Thank you very much.  I will check it out.  This was my first time making layouts for retrofe so getting use to all the options.

Is there a page up down animation?  I would like to have the box images move off the screen and back on with paging up and down which gets used alot along with letter down up.  If that is not currently possible that would be a nice feature to add thanks.

Not a separate animation at the moment; it just activates onHighlightExit/Enter.

Oh well then I guess I will make those a slide on and off thing.  Thanks

Here is my system box section:

Code: [Select]
<reloadableImage type="artwork_front" x="1578" y="687" alpha="0" xOrigin="center" yOrigin="center" layer="14">
<onEnter>
<set duration=".25">
<animate type="alpha" to="1" algorithm="easeinquadratic"/>
</set>
</onEnter>
<onExit>
<set duration=".25">
<animate type="xOffset" from="0" to="600" algorithm="easeinquadratic"/>
</set>
</onExit>
<onMenuEnter menuIndex="0">
<set duration=".25">
<animate type="alpha" to="1" algorithm="easeinquadratic"/>
</set>
</onMenuEnter>
<onMenuExit menuIndex="0">
<set duration=".25" menuIndex="0">
<animate type="xOffset" from="0" to="600" algorithm="easeinquadratic"/>
</set>
</onMenuExit>
<onHighlightEnter menuIndex="0">
<set duration=".25">
<animate type="xOffset" from="600" to="0" algorithm="easeinquadratic"/>
</set>
</onHighlightEnter>
<onHighlightExit menuIndex="0">
<set duration=".25">
<animate type="xOffset" from="0" to="600" algorithm="easeinquadratic"/>
</set>
</onHighlightExit>
<onMenuScroll menuIndex="0">
<set duration=".25">
<animate type="xOffset" from="0" to="600" algorithm="easeinquadratic"/>
</set>
</onMenuScroll>
</reloadableImage>

Is there a way to make the box not slide off if you hold down the page up or page down?  Like keep the box off the screen until you stop in the next menu item.  As in it repeats the animation over and over if you hold the button for page up or down.  If you tap the button it works great.

Not at the moment. Since page up/down is currently a single action rather than a scroll, it immediately starts (and finishes) the onHighlightEnter animation. The menu scroll waits for the scrolling animation to complete first. I'd have to give some serious thought on how to best implement a page up/down scroll without starting an animation.

What if you change the onHighlightEnter value ? instead of from 0 to 600 => from 600 to 600 ...

Because it moves the box off the screen.  It is interesting and I will probably stick with that it's better than the same box sliding off and on repeatedly.  You tend to hold page down or letter jump alot due to there not being a search function yet.

Because if you set the animation to a fixed position (600) when that resets it won't animate basically :P but he can try to change it to 0 also on both values... I will try also and see

the best I could do is this

Code: [Select]
<onHighlightEnter menuIndex="0">
<set duration=".25">
<animate type="xOffset" from="0" to="0" algorithm="easeinquadratic"/>
</set>
</onHighlightEnter>

it removes the slide in animation but it won't slide out anymore when using pageup/pagedown ... still visible still sliding out when scrolling  :)

Sounds like this could use its own animation or otherwise a better capture of holding the key, where the menu gets updated, but the animation doesn't start unless the key is released. I'll give it some thought.

No, because everyone that sees the setup says wow.  Look at the quality of the images when they are browsing.  I could test though as I did adjust all the layouts for the page down and added amstrad gx4000.  So compression may help load times, thoughy it's fast compared to nox as is.

Ofc I did not mean that you ll have to compromise quality :P I prefer quality also it's just some images can have the same picture quality at a lower file size :)
was just a thought

I am running the all the images through PNGGauntlet Default Settings right now to test.  That program you can just drag the whole layout folder and it will compress them all and overwrite the original files.  It is not getting the 400k to 150k.  But it got some space shaved off.

I modified a little the default theme for personal use
(http://i68.tinypic.com/2yzbtr8.png)

do you know how to fade the pointer

You would want to change the pointer image code to this:

   <image src="images/SystemPointer.png" alpha="1" x="0" y="0" width="stretch" height="stretch" layer="11">
         <onIdle>
         <set duration="4">
            <animate type="alpha" to="0" algorithm="easeinquadratic"/>
         </set>
           </onIdle>
   </image>

That will have the pointer fade out in sync with the wheel.  Play with the duration if you want to have it fade out at a different rate.

Cheers!

On my setup it is about 1 second between switching menu items on the main menu and i would say around .5 on a system theme.

Computer:
500gb SSD
i5 3rd Gen 3.4Ghz
8gb memory
Nvidia Quadro K2000 Video Card.
No virus scan.

Test disabling virus scan?  What are your specs? I will be posting an updated theme soon that features a few updates.  One of the updates is the images have been compressed to reduce size some.  For instance the Arcade classics theme is about 5 megs now is the updated one is 3.95megs instead.  Thanks for checking it out.

A major factor here is SSD/HDD speed vs file size. Just look at your directories to see how many MBs need to be loaded, and then factor in your storage speed. Scrolling on my external HDD is much much slower than on my internal SSD. My MAME set on Aeon Nox also scrolled a lot faster after I reduced the flyers to about 500x500 pixels.

My pc
CPU AMD 3.2GHZ
8GB Ram
AMD Radeon R9 200 series video card

Antivirus don't scan retrofe folder and retrofe is add as a game so no scan when working
The size of HDD is 3TB with 2TB empty

For systems is working ok and i use box (500x680) and cart (512x512) and i have no problem

I will try to reduce size of the artwork and add some animation

Version 1.1 Update:

Ran all images through pngquant and reduced entire layout size from ~200 megs to ~92 megs.  May help with loading on slower systems.
Added additional wheel menu indexes to support an additional submenu layer.
Removed blue pointer from main menu and system themes in favor of Retrofe Pointer
added Gun Games theme
fixed letter jumping cart and box images jumping

Will need Pieter to test and update downloads section but link above should work for the time being.

See post 1 for download location.

So I am testing my theme on linux/rpi and running into issues.

I get main menu videos fine.  But I am not getting videos per game/per system.  At first I thought it was a basemediapath thing but that wasnt it.  Maybe someone can help me.

retrofe install location: /opt/retropie/configs/all/retrofe/

the layout.xml uses this line for the videos:

<!-- System Video -->
   <reloadableVideo imageType="screenshot" alpha="1" x="584" y="223" height="602" width="778" layer="6"/>

The settings.conf for the system has this for video:

media.video           = %BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\%ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME%\medium_artwork\video

I am testing atari 7800 and the videos are there in this path:

/opt/retropie/configs/all/retrofe/collections/Atari 7800/medium_artwork/video

The videos match the game names (cAseSenSITive) and all too.  Not sure what my deal is.  If anyone has an ideal I appreciate it

Most likely this is a pi3 video codec issue. To test that theory, simply (temporarily) use one of the non-working videos as system video, and see if it works. If it does not, it's a codec issue.

So the same video on the main menu that plays fine does not play renamed as the rom name for the system.  Not sure what my deal is.  Any ideas?

Edit:  I tested with the default 16x9 and AeonNox themes/layouts as well and no videos on the system menu as well.  So maybe it is something related to the pi image I am using/test.

I dont see in the log where it(retrofe) loads the video, is there some where to find that?

I double checked the codecs of the vids too, the main menu and system ones use the same codec:   avc1 mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC

So the same video on the main menu that plays fine does not play renamed as the rom name for the system.  Not sure what my deal is.  Any ideas?

I'll need to check the code. I noticed the following line in the log.txt:
[2017-09-06 01:18:36] [INFO] [Configuration] Dump: "collections.Atari 7800.media.video" = "%BASE_MEDIA_PATH%\Atari 7800\medium_artwork\video"
As you can see, the %ITEM_COLLECTION_NAME% was expanded, but the %BASE_MEDIA_PATH% is not. I'll need to check if that gets expanded later in the code or not.
I also notice that \ is used in stead of / for path separation; I'm not sure if that could cause a problem on the pi.

Retrospin Static 16x9 1.2 Released:

- Updated Main Menu layout to use mode commonlayout for images (allows for per item images of batch files)
- Moved Main menu images to their proper locations here: RetroSpin - Static 16x9\collections\_common\medium_artwork\<image type>\<SystemName>.png
- Updated System Layouts to have infobar.png as InfoBar.png matching the image case (linux doesnt like it when the case doesnt match and would show up missing on linux based systems)

Updated.

- add a couple more systems
- added alternate layout.xml for Main collection to fade wheel and pointer
- added alternate layout.xml for System collection to fade point with wheel.
- added instructions.txt to explain alternate layout.xmls files renaming the main one and copying the system one to all systems that you use if you use it.

New update looks great, is there a way to add firstLetter functionality to this theme? I wanted to have it on the left hand side by where the console images are on the game wheel.

Thank Dougan78 for allowing me to mods your Theme :)

I will add more system (lot of work to add all my system), and change somes layout visual for art and cart + add first letter function since i like it too :) I had to modify the system border in 16/9 for my video, but the sub level is still in 4/3 for 4/3 system and 16/9 for 16/9 system.
I will share all the system i add in a google drive for those who want to use it in their RetroFE system.

Here a Xbox sample WIP, i'm not a designer but i'm training myself on these.

I’d like to request permission to modify this theme for core as well. It’s almost completed. Have added a lot of features to it. Is this possible?

Of course.  My only request on mods that its not something that is to be sold and remains free.  After all my 16x9 version is loosely based of the original RetroSpin by JonahUK(4x3 version with lots of animations), who saved me the trouble of having to make the wheel animation so thank you JonahUK.  I will continue to make whatever I decide to do with this version available here as I am partial to what I have and like it the way it is.  Although the request for the displaying the letter for where you are at on the wheel is intriguing to me so I may add that in the not too distant future.  Plus I enjoy seeing what others come up with.  Thanks!

Hey Dougan, Thank you for your response. I have actually been working very closely with Jonah to get this theme migrated to CORE. I'm really excited to be able to bring these new features along with it. Thanks very much, and of course this would never be used for profit, this is for the gamers!

Hello, i hope the OP doesn't mind or be offended with this, but i have been re-moding this skin/theme to my liking...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-D30PMtsjIk

most of the content was changed, except some console layouts that i founded great to use...  i really like this retrospin groove
but as i am relatively new to use retroFE it would be hard to start coding anything from scretch, so i just did use this as a template.

By the way, does anyone knows what arguments should i use to load games on Yabause? or yaba Sanshiro?  i managed to run this emulator pretty stable at beautifull fullscreen 1080p and 60fps, most of the games i want, but it doesnt load with retroFE :(
