Title: New to Retrofe with a few questions
Post by: hemuni on September 17, 2017, 12:46:35 PM
Hi, I'm new  :) thank for accepting my membership and for arguably the best gaming frontend (at least of the ones I have tried so far  ;))
I recently found my pie2 in a drawer and decided to setup a mame system. Digging around for info, I found out that Dolphin had come a long way and decided to setup a wii system instead, using the computer I had already connected to my tv. This led me to search for a frontend and initially played around with launchbox and emulatorstation, but decided RetroFE's approach was better suited my needs. The entry level were much higher, but the end result much more rewarding. I am close to a perfect setup, but I have a few questions regarding my configuration.
Since I am only using one emulator and don't plan to add more, I don't need more than one menu level and would like to jump straight into wii systems game menu. I could probably hack a solution together by changing a layout to use the second level as the main menu, but that would require a lot of work and I was hoping there might be a simpler solution?
Also I was wondering if anybody knows of a way to start Retrofe with an xbox controller in windows?

Welcome :) How to make RetroFE start in the Wii menu will depend on the layout you're using. If the first and second menus use the same scheme you can simply go into the RetroFE/settings.conf and set the firstCollection option to your Wii collection. If you're using a layout that has different menu styles, like Aeon Nox, you'll need to edit the layout.xml so that it uses second menu style rather than the first.

Regarding using a controller to start RetroFE in Windows, that should be doable using an AutoHotkey script to launch the process on buttonpress or by using a keymapper that would launch a script.

Hi Agent. Yes I see what you are saying about choosing a layout with the same scheme in both menu layers, that would definitely do it. I think I will use that for now.
I was thinking about autohotkey as a solution. A simple solution is to pin Retrofe to the taskbar fx at position 5 and then call it with win+5 through autohotkey. I was hoping maybe someone could share their specific solution.

I have another question regarding a renaming tool. Is there a tool that will automatically match up names of a bunch of roms and images, based on somewhat similar names?

Thank you!
