Of i connect it after starting rfe it doesnt crash.
Thanks for any help

Hi,
I can't help I'm afraid, sorry. I do however have the same issue.
I have found that it doesn't crash though if I only have just the xbox controller alone plugged in and no others.
-
I guess I should invest in some controllers sometime so I can actually test these things. Without additional debugging information it's very hard for me to figure out what the cause might be.
Anyone with an xbox 360 wireless controller willing and able to run some debugging for me?
-
I've got a 360 wireless controller running under Windows 10 and don't experience any crash.
Simply let me know if I can test/do anything that may help.
-
dougan78, could you upload your controls.conf file so others can test with it to see if there's an issue there?
-
Here you go! Thank you!
-
I'm gonna have a try at this during the weekend and let you know.
-
Well interestingly enough it just quit crashing on its own. I tested today and I can have at least 1 controller on and it doesnt crash when RFE launches. All good now for the time being.

Which version are you running?

.7.20. I think I was doing it wrong. I was setting up keyboard controls in one section. Then setup joystick controls in another section. Did not have time to look at it that close at the time. I set it to use coma separated controls for each function and it worked.
I had to look back at the default contolls.conf to see what I was goofing up.

Same issue here. RetroFE crashes if any of my 4 Xbox360 controllers are turned on after Windows has started up, but before RetroFE has initialized.
Edit: Another issue is that RetroFE doesn't favor one particular gamepad. My arcade control panel isn't necessary the first (joy0), but may sometimes be joy1, joy2 or even joy3 depending on what else is connected... is there a way to tell RetroFE to use a specific device or do I just have to list all of them in the controls config?

I should probably look into that controller code sometime; I really haven't looked much at it since Emb added it. I also plan on having a look at the EmulationStation code to see what I can learn from it.

The most important for for now is figuring out why RetroFE crashes if a Xbox 360 controller is plugged in, so if I can help you debug this issue, just let me know. :)
-
Well, the best help is someone running RetroFE in a debugger, and send me the line it crashes on or someone sending me a controller to test it with. 😀 Things work fine for me using the PS3 controllers that I have.

Of course, I just have to figure out how to compile the code on Windows/in Visual Studio. I'll give it another try to see if I can get it running.
-
I have been trying to compile RetroFE for a while, but haven't been able to get it to run. However, the latest version seems to solve the problem! Awesome!
The only thing that might be a issue is deadzone. I've noticed that it's very sensitive so if my Xbox360 stick is just a little off the menu starts to go left/right.
Might be possible to work around this issue by calibrating the controller in Windows, not sure yet, but I really appreciate the update Pieter Hulshoff! ;D
-
There's a deadzone setting in the controls.conf you can adjust.

Glad to hear my hot-plug feature also solved this bug.

Oh man I hadn't realized you added that feature, it's a really hot one indeed!!! I appreciate it very much, thanks!!!
